Microsoft first launched its Azure service that runs on Linux

Sirosh Joseph (Joseph Sirosh), corporate vice president of Microsoft, announced the release of the first product of this company to work with large data intended for Linux, - Azure HDInsight.

HDInsight - Microsoft solution based on Hadoop, fully compatible with Hadoop and running on the cloud platform Azure. Interestingly, the new service offered at Azure in the usual way (pay-per-use resources), was the first corporation which run on a free operating system GNU / Linux.

As reported at Microsoft, HDInsight created “to handle any volume of information with scaling from terabytes to petabytes of data as necessary.” Data can be unstructured and semi-structured, and also provides the ability to visualize the results in Excel.
