Today Ubuntu 14.04 comes with a five-year support

Despite the fact that the official release has yet to happen today, Canonical has released a press release to mark the release of two key revisions Ubuntu 14.04: Desktop and Server. Desktop version of Ubuntu called manufacturer “proven operating system for consumers and businesses”, and the server - “preferred cloud platform.”

Release 14.04 is notable in that it has the status of long-term support (LTS), in which Canonical ensures safe release of updates for the past five years (up to 2019 and for the Desktop, and Server, and for some other official editions).

Among the key changes in the release of Ubuntu 14.04 “Trusty Tahr”:
* Kernel Linux 3.13, Upstart 1.12.1, Python 3.4;
* Shell for the desktop Unity 7 and a preliminary version of Unity 8;
* Cloud platform OpenStack 2014.1 (Icehouse);
* DBMS MySQL 5.5 and 5.6, the Web server Apache 2.4;
* Virtualization c Xen 4.4, QEMU 2.0, libvirt 1.2.2, LXC 1.0;
* KDE 4.13 in Kubuntu.
