Linus Torvalds - hatred of Microsoft is a disease

Linus Torvalds has publicly voiced his opinion about adding drivers to the Linux kernel by Microsoft. In an interview with Linux Magazine, he answered the following questions:

Q - Have you watched the source code for Microsoft?
A - No. Mainly because I did not do all in a row, that gets in the driver code of the kernel (it no matter what no effect), especially when I do not use this code myself. In such matters I trust the maintainers (soprovozhdyuschim). As a rule, I look at the code, when they found bugs, or if the code involves many subsystems, or the code - an important part of the kernel subsystem in the design of which I actively participate (for example, code like VM, processing resources, the kernel code base kernel and etc). Most likely I'll look at this code, when it actually will be submitted to maintainer (in this case - is Greg Kroah-Hartman), out of curiosity.

Q - How do you feel about the inclusion of this code? He's from Microsoft.
A - Oh, I sincerely believe that technology should be above politics. I do not care who comes to technology, yet there is reason for the appearance of the code, and yet there is a question of licensing and other matters of that nature.

In fact, due to the fact that the code of the new member of the community, I would rather prefer to include this code, what not to include (again, I would like to note that drivers are special. They do not affect other parts of the system, so it can be integrated much more painless than other possible changes in the nucleus).

Sometimes I make fun of Microsoft from time to time, but at the same time, I think that hatred of Microsoft is a disease. I believe in open development, and this largely involves not only open source, but the rejection of attempts to exclude people or companies from the development process.

There are extremists in the world of free software, and this is one of the main reasons due to which I will not say that I am doing what is called "free software". I do not want to be is associated to the people for whom this is a source of exclusion and hatred.

Q - Should there be a different attitude to Microsoft?
A - I agree that Microsoft is pursuing its own interests in this matter with the publication of the code. But this is the same reason for which is written all other open source! We are all pursuing their own goals. For their own interests, I started writing Linux and because of them, I continue to do so. Own benefit - is that the persecuted in one way or another, all those involved in open source.
