Clipboards with a specialized version of the Ubuntu OS will appear in 2011

Canonical is preparing a version of the operating system[/[t:tag slug=sistema]system Ubuntu, optimized for Tablet PCs, says a source, referring to the head of the company. Best-selling operating system on the Linux kernel is focused on the use desktop PCs, laptops and servers. The next step in promoting Ubuntu should be out in the increasingly popular segment of the tablets.

According to reports, the first version of Ubuntu for Tablet is already in development. Finished products with Linux will be available in the first quarter of next year. The basis for the tablet version will be Ubuntu 10.10, known as document name Maverick Meerkat (current version codenamed Lucid Lynx is number 10.04 LTS). Its special features include support for touch panels, capable of recognizing multiple touches simultaneously, and numerous measures aimed at reducing power consumption device. In addition, versions for Tablet and netbooks will be merged into a lightweight distro Ubuntu Light.

As hardware platforms, flatbed version of Ubuntu will be calculated on the ARM processor and Intel, which expands the potential user base.
