Intel is increasingly included in the development of Linux

According to official figures released today by the company Red Hat has been and remains the largest corporate donor to the code for the operating system Linux: in the first quarter, the share of this company had 12.3% of all innovations, officially entered into the stable version of the kernel Linux. However, while Linux is still the most “popular” OS, as most changes in the nucleus (18.1% or 9574 changes) made by independent programmers, or companies that have left no official information about yourself.

Indeed, over the past six months, greatly accelerated the development of Intel’s own wireless system Moblin, today announced partnerships with Ubuntu on optimizing Linux for processors Atom, began to work with Nokia to optimize VoIP-stack technology for the Linux kernel and has launched a number of related projects.

In general, analysts say that the world of Linux greatly pushed forward the four major IT players: Red Hat, Novell, IBM, and now that’s Intel. For comparison: the share of AMD accounts for only 1,1% of innovations, the same package donated Sun. As for Intel, this company is actively start “light” in the circles of Linux-only developer in 2007, while the share of Intel had only 2.3% of the variation, but since then the company is constantly increasing its activity.
