The Pentagon has adopted techniques Open Source

Since October last year, the Agency of Information Systems of the Ministry of Defense (DISA) creates a collaboration platform Forge.mil, and in April launched its first component, called SoftwareForge. It includes version control system, bug tracking, source control requirements and the creation of releases, as well as other collaboration tools - wikis, forums, and store documents. In addition, the agency issued the organization Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) license for the developed system of Corporate Management Information System (CMIS), designed for management personnel. OSSI will release her version of open source: free for academic institutions and customary for government organizations and private companies.

In DISA attach great importance to modern methods of work on the principles of Web 2.0 and the development of open source programs. It is based on their platform Forge.mil. Services platform available to more users through the Web, and this approach should accelerate the development of defense systems, believe in the agency.
