Why Linux is still not N1

The operating system GNU / Linux for more than 15 years, Debian Linux - one of the first full-scale distributions built on the kernel Linus Torvalds released in 1993, but since 96 th out steadily. The same can be said about Slackware. This is more than middle-aged, especially for such a dynamic industry like software and IT in general. And regularly, year after year we hear the optimistic statements that here, too in the new year, Linux will become “Number One”. Time is passing and to be honest - that any radical increase in the number of linux-users have not yet observed, particularly in the percentage of the rest. And this despite the fact that for many free axis remains something of a trendy toy for a week. Why is this happening? Why are actually effective, scalable, secure, and all at the same time - free (and often - and completely free) distributed operating system and a huge collection of many thousands of application software are not that - unknown to and not in demand to hundreds of millions of computer users around the world? ! How can that be?

The fact that for so long that little has changed, involuntarily raises. Maybe the problems run deeper than they agreed to look normal. Maybe these problems - “ideological” nature, and stopped by the Gurus themselves from the world of the Penguins? Let’s try to understand this. After all, understand the problem, it means - is already half solved it!
