Free Software Foundation filed a lawsuit against Cisco

Free Software Foundation (Free Software Foundation), supporting the software with open source software, sued the company Cisco. The latter is accused of violating the GPL, which extends to open source. It is reported by InformationWeek.

Cisco distribute copies of the firmware for the production of its subsidiary Linksys under the GPL. Representatives of the Free Software Foundation claim that while the company has published only a portion of the firmware code, although under the terms of the GPL to be publishing the entire code.

Free Software Foundation requires the court to impose a ban on the sale of devices, Linksys, firmware, which violates the GPL. Also, the plaintiffs insist on the transfer of income Cisco, obtained in violation of the GPL.

Cisco is one of the leading manufacturers of telecommunications equipment and software for network management. Linksys was acquired by Cisco in 2003 for half a billion dollars.
