Company ALT Linux distributions announced the release of ALT Linux 4.1
Desktop. This distribution is broader purpose, designed for desktop
and laptop computers.

Changes from ALT Linux 4.0 Desktop Personal include:

* Current batch base
* Kernel Linux 2.6.25, supports a wider range of equipment
* KDE 3.5.10 (GNOME 2.22 and XFCE 4.4.2 you can also install from DVD)
* Firefox 3
* NetworkManager, allows you to manage any network connection without administrative privileges
* Ability to install USB-flash (including computers EeePC) with a special disk image
* Ability to create Zip files with Cyrillic filenames, readable on Windows
* New look for the control center system
* Updated module loader configuration and graphic mode
* New modules Center settings:
o Creating a bootable USB-device
o Setting up a system-wide proxy server (including apt)
o A simple choice for the source package updates
o Package management
* Kaffeine as the default player for audio and video files
* To view the images by default KView
* Changed menu and removed many of the duplicate programs:
o instead KGhostView, KPDF and Evince KDVI used
o removed KuickShow, KMail (these packages are included on the disk and can install them manually)
* New programs:
o Qtemu (graphical interface to Qemu)
o VirtualBox
