A company called CodeWeavers adapted web-browser Google Chromium for Linux

Official support for Linux browser Google Chrome, in its current state, is a set of source code designed to work in test mode subsystems, ie the entire user interface is limited to finding a dump of passing the tests in text mode. A company called CodeWeavers decided this issue, use the same approach that Google’s release of Linux version of Picasa. On the basis of source Chromium (Chrome - the name of the binary version from Google) for the Windows platform and developments of the project WINE, were formed binary packages with the build of Chromium web-browser for Linux and Mac OS X.

The project called CrossOver Chromium and is available for download in the form of packages for Debian, Ubuntu and Mandriva, as well as shell-installer for other Linux distributions. Package Size - 35MB. Of the differences from proprietary build Google Chrome, in the CrossOver Chromium is no system auto-update, so in case of detection of vulnerabilities, it is necessary to update a package manually.

CrossOver Chromium Project was completed in 11 days, and to solve some problems needed a little refining Wine, in particular the implementation of support for HTTPS in the library winhttp. Initially, the process of launching Chrome in wine was not trivial, a few days after the first release of Chrome was released on Wine 1.1.4, solves some, but not all, problems.
