Acer makes a serious bid on GNU / Linux

Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer has announced its intention to seriously use in its Linux products and software with open source software (Open Source).
Acer is promoting Linux for its low-cost ultraportable computer (netbook), which will appear later this year, and now management has announced that it will install Linux on laptops.
As explained by Giampiero Morbello (Gianpiero Morbello), vice president of marketing and brand Acer, the intention to actively promote and use Linux due to the corporation itself, Microsoft: “We have shifted towards Linux because of Microsoft. Microsoft is very strong, and it will be difficult, but We will work diligently to develop the Linux-market. ”
In Acer sees two main advantages of Linux: the functioning and price. Preinstalled Linux-distribution will run for 15 seconds compared to minutes it takes to start Windows, and the time of the device from the battery to increase from 5 to 7 hours. And the difference in price, achieved by pre-installing Linux on my computer instead of Windows, enables Acer to make more attractive offers in the market of low-cost devices.
Financial benefit to Linux said David Drummond (David Drummond), managing director of the British branch of Acer: “The operating system from Microsoft usually costs about 50 pounds apiece. For PC worth £ 1000 is irrelevant, but for a computer at a cost of £ 200 is a very important factor. ”
